How to Join the Nova Scotia Association of Osteopaths
Because we are such a small number we continue to require that all Osteopaths in N.S. also belong to the Ontario Association of Osteopaths.
1. All new grads will first have to join OAOMP by filling out the application on their website (www.osteopathyontario.org)
2. You will need copy of diploma from CEO/CCO or graduating institution and proof of malpractice insurance for Osteopathy.
3. Cost is $400 for non-Ontario residents to join OAOMP and they require $2,000,000 coverage on your malpractice insurance.
Please note: It can take a couple of weeks to join the OAOMP and get membership certificate.
4. Once you have OAOMP membership send with application form and proof of malpractice insurance to the NSAO and a billing number will be issued. Cost to join NSAO is $250 for new grads (50% discount by joining ½ way through the year)
5. The NSAO will notify all insurance companies of our new members on July 14th, so hopefully all applications will be in by then.
6. Please include both your OAOMP registration # and NSAO registration # on your receipts and clearly include Practitioner name, what the service was i.e. Osteopathy, your designation (DOMP) and date.
Registration with Insurance Companies
Medavie Blue Cross- requires that you register with them directly. They have approved both OAOMP and NSAO associations. They will issue you a provider number. Medavie Blue Cross has also started to require a MD referral for some plans. For Blue Cross send a copy of your OAOMP membership certificate and NSAO # to Karen/Melissa Fax #1-506-869-9673. They do not do electronic billing. Please note, you must request to register separately for each of the 4 subdivisions of Blue Cross: Private, Canadian Forces, RCMP, and DVA (Veterans).
